Note Recently, it was recognized that there are four different similar species in Japan: Adonis ramosa Franchet (2n=4x=32), Adonis amurensis Regel & Radde (2n=2x=16: syn. Adonis amurensis Regel & Radde var. angustiloba A. I. Baranov & Skvortsov; Adonis amurensis Regel & Radde var. uniflorus Makino; Adonis apennina L. var. danurica Maximovicz; Adonis barthei Franchet; Adonis vernalis L. var. amurensis (Regel & Radde) Finet & Gagnepain), Adonis multiflora Nishikawa & Koji Ito (2n=2x=16) and Adonis shikokuensis Nishikawa & Koji Ito (2n=2x=16).
Adonis ramosa occurs in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, Adonis amurensis occurs in Hokkaido, Adonis multiflora occurs in Honshu and Ksyushu and Adonis shikokuensis occurs in Shikoku and Kyushu.
